November block-of-the-month

Gosling-Go-Round BlockTVQG members are invited to make the gosling-go-round block for our November block-of-the-month. Instructions are available in our members-only section. The finished block size is 12” x 12”. It’s suggested that you use yellow in the center, spring colors for the geese, medium blue in the corners, and a cream background. We’ll hold a drawing for the blocks at our November 17th meeting.

Cynthia Brunz to speak at October meeting

Cynthia BrunzCynthia Brunz will be the featured speaker at the Tualatin Valley Quilt Guild’s October meeting. Cynthia is a pattern designer, longarm quilter, quilting instructor, and quilt blogger.

Cynthia says one of her strengths is in the use of scraps — she’s always trying to come up with new ways of using them. She teaches classes on occasion and regularly blogs about her projects and patterns. To learn more about Cynthia, check out her blog: Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.

October block-of-the-month

The finished block size is 12” x 12”. It’s suggested that you use yellow for color #1 and orange, brown, or green for color #2. (The block pictured here may look like yellow/black, but is actually yellow/dark brown.) We’ll hold a drawing for the blocks at our October 17th meeting.

Allison Aller to speak at September meeting

Allison AllerTVQG is pleased to welcome Allison Aller as our guest speaker in September. Allie has been stitching, sewing, knitting, and writing since she was a child. After earning her degree in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University in 1977, Allie has been quilting non-stop. She’s worked with crazy quilting, stained glass, Broderie Perse,  and landscape techniques; these approaches all inform her creativity. You can see samples of Allie’s work on her website.

Allie has written two books: Allie Aller’s Stained Glass Quilts Reimagined: Fresh Technques and Design (2017) and Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting: Modern Piecing & Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching (2014). She co-authored Quilts — Just A Little Bit Crazy with fellow crazy quilter Valerie Bothell (2014). Allie’s work has also appeared in Quilters Newsletter Magazine, American Quilter, the $100,000 Quilt Challenge, Needlepoint Now, and as guest artist in several books.

Allie is an instructor for Craftsy where she teaches “Crazy Quilts” online.

TVQG meetings in King City

King City ClubhouseREMINDER: Starting this month the Tualatin Valley Quilt Guild will hold its monthly speaker meetings at the King City Civic Center Clubhouse. It’s just off Hwy 99 at 15245 SW 116th Ave, King City, OR.

The July speaker meeting will feature Teresa Coates, a quiltmaker whose quilts and sewing projects have appeared in Quilty, Stitch, Quiltmakers’ 100 Quilt Blocks, Generation Q, and American Quilt Retailer. The meeting will be Tuesday, July 18th, starting at 7 pm.

Teresa Coates to speak at July meeting

Teresa CoatesSpeaking at our July meeting will be Teresa Coates, a maker and writer with a penchant for sewing, quilting, teaching, and adventure.

Her quilts and sewing projects have appeared in Quilty, Stitch, Quiltmakers’ 100 Quilt Blocks, Generation Q, and American Quilt Retailer. She speaks at both local and national venues about a variety of topics including modern takes on traditional blocks, patchwork with curves, applique techniques, garment sewing for quilters, and more.
