Bonnie Sabel Welt to speak at September meeting

Bonnie Sabel WeltBonnie Sabel Welt learned about crafting and sewing from her Aunt Sylvia, an artist and quilter who taught Bonnie to see with an artist’s eye.

In the 1980’s, several pieces of Bonnie’s original wearable art were juried into national shows, including two appliquéd butterfly jackets that were included in the prestigious annual Designed to Wear event for the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts.

Bonnie shifted her focus to quilting bed-sized quilts and original wall quilts in the 1990s. Many of her original wearable art and art quilts have been sold at shows and galleries. Several of her quilts have won Viewer’s Choice awards.

Bonnie is the author of Positively Postcards: Quilted Keepsakes to Save or Send. She plans to show most of the postcards pictured in her book during her presentation.

The September meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 20th, starting at 7 pm at the Sherwood Senior Center, 21907 SW Sherwood Blvd, Sherwood, OR.

Quilt Challenge Reveal. For this year’s challenge, members were invited to create a quilt based on a children’s book. Anything about the book could be used for inspiration: setting, characters, theme, or even something as simple as the colors in the book’s cover. We’ll vote for our favorites and prizes will be awarded.

UFO Contest. Members were challenged to complete their UFOs for this contest. For each completed project, the quilter receives a ticket to be entered in a drawing for prizes. UFO quilts will be displayed separately from quilts being shown at the August Show & Tell.
